Kids bunk beds are a good solution for handling the problem
of not having separate rooms for your children. Another problem
kids bunk beds solve is the issue of space. Bunks allow you to
house two kids per room, thus saving space in one room occupied
by two children because you can stack the beds. If there is a
shortage of room in a house and many children, you can even put
two sets of bunks in one room, making it more like a
dormitory.
When children are young, this is a solution you can get away
with, mainly because they are not used to having their own
space. It may be a bit more difficult to condense living
quarters for children who are used to having their own rooms.
Still, the vertically stacked bunk beds do save room space, and
can make sharing a room somewhat easier while giving the
children more floor space for playing and storage.
There are several styles of kids bunk beds. Some are wooden,
others are metal. There are simple rustic wooden frames, wagon
wheel Western theme bunks, white girl’s bunks, colorful or
black metal bunks, and modern finished wooden bunks. They are
popular with all ages of children, including college students.
Most are single bed size, but there are double bunks and single
over double bed bunds. Another popular style has a futon bed on
the bottom and a single bed on top. Yet other styles are made
up of two beds, stacked, that can be separated easily later on
where there is more room for beds. Another style features a top
bunk that has the bottom bed perpendicular to the top, and it
is usually on wheels so that it can be moved around.
Having kids bunk beds that can be separated is a good
feature. You can put them both on the floor level, or even in
different rooms when you have the room. Or, one bed can serve
as a loft bed, with a desk underneath, or dresser, while the
other is placed on the other side of the room as a floor level
single bed. Most kids enjoy having a set of bunk beds. There is
always a spot for a friend to spend the night when one child
has a bunk bed set in his or her room. Or, they like to put
their stuffed animals on the top bed and sleep on the bottom
bed. Many enjoy climbing the ladder or the end frame to get to
the top bed.
Bunk beds have been popular for a long time, and were common
in the old West bunkhouses of the cowboys. Kids enjoy them just
because they are different than a regular single bed. For
smaller children, you can get extra safety side rails to help
prevent falls, and a cautionary talk with the children about
safety is very important. For most situations, a good solution
for any sleeping space problem is a set of kids bunk beds.
